Growth Rate

  • Height: When left unmowed, Zoysia grass, including Jambalaya, can grow to about 6 to 12 inches tall. However, it is typically maintained at a height of 1 to 2 inches through regular mowing.

Growing Conditions

  • Sunlight: Prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade.
  • Soil: Thrives in well-drained soils but is adaptable to a range of soil types, including sandy and clay soils.
  • Watering: Requires moderate watering. Once established, it has good drought tolerance compared to other turfgrasses.
  • Hardiness Zones: Suitable for USDA hardiness zones 6-11.


  • Mowing: Regular mowing is needed to maintain its height and appearance. Mowing heights typically range from 1 to 2 inches.
  • Fertilization: Benefits from a regular fertilization schedule to maintain its green color and density.
  • Pest and Disease Resistance: Generally resistant to common pests and diseases, although proper maintenance can help prevent issues.
