The Big Red Peach Tree is a notable freestone variety celebrated for its exceptionally large, firm, and flavorful yellow-fleshed fruit. The peaches, averaging 3 to 3.5 inches in diameter, feature a vibrant crimson red blush over a yellowish-green background, offering a classic Southern peach taste with a delightful acidic tang. This vigorous tree reaches a mature height and width of 10 to 15 feet, making it suitable for various garden sizes. It thrives in USDA Hardiness Zones 5 through 8, requiring approximately 750 chill hours, and is self-pollinating, ensuring reliable fruit production without the need for an additional pollinator. The Big Red Peach Tree ripens in the late season, typically from September 13 to 16, about 49 days after the Redhaven variety. While it offers excellent fruit quality, the tree is moderately to lightly productive and has a high susceptibility to bacterial spot, necessitating attentive care and management. With its impressive fruit size and traditional peach flavor, the Big Red Peach Tree is a valuable addition to orchards and home gardens alike.
