Red Leaf (atropurpureum)

Intolerant of exposed areas where high winds may stress the tree. In direct sun, leaves may become partially scorched. Otherwise....very easy to grow! It grows well as an understory tree (grows well under taller trees), tolerating fairly dense shade.

Height: 12-20'
Width: 10-20'
Growth Rate: Moderate to fast (12” to 24” / year)
Habit: Well filled and rounded at maturity.
Foliage: Five-lobed, rich crimson-red new leaves in spring, turning to bronze-green in summer, and then finally to rich crimson-red in autumn.
Bark: Grayish-purple
Sun: Partial sun
Soil: Adaptable to a range of soil types once established, but will do best in a moist, well-drained soil. Use a compost/topsoil garden mix.
Water: Only water when periods of drought. Generally, rainfall will quench its thirst!
